Book entry#3 on Black boy

Posted by: andreaish | November 6, 2008 | 1 Comment |

The book I am reading this month is called Black boy.

Black boy is a auto biography about and African American man’s life. His name is Richard Wright. The book takes place in the south of America in between the years of 1908 and 1944. Richard had a harsh life. At the age of 4 he burnt down his house and at the age of 6 he became an alcoholic. This book is well written and has many description, but it is also a sad and serious book. If you’re in the mood of a serious read, i recommend Black boy, but if you’re more a fantasy type of person, maybe this book isn’t a book for you.

Traditional Dutch Festivals

Posted by: andreaish | November 2, 2008 | 2 Comments |

There are two traditional Dutch festivals, Sinterklas and Koninginnedag. In this post I will be talking about Koninginnedag.

Koninginnedag, or Queens day, is celebrated on the 30 April or 29 if the 30 is a Sunday. It is celebrated in the name of the Queen of the Netherlands’s birthday. The tradition started on the 30 August 1885. On Queens day people all over the country sell things on the street. There is no specific place to sell your stuff, but in the capital, Amsterdam, is Queens day the largest.

Where I live

Posted by: andreaish | November 1, 2008 | 4 Comments |

Hi it’s me, Andrea:) This post will be about where I live and what I do there!

I live in a area called ‘t Gooi in the Netherlands. The largest town in Het gooi is called Hilversum and has a population of 84,217. The school I go too, The International School of Hilversum, is in Hilversum, but I don’t live there. I live in a place called Blaricum, although I live on the edge of Blaricum clost to Laren. Laren is larger than Blaricum and in Laren I play football (soccer), and do other stuff. I don’t do anything in Blaricum. I also do manythings in Hilversum. After school I’m always there with my school friends in town. But on weekends I hang out with my football team friends mostly. My school friends all speak english because I go to an International schoole whilst my football friends are all Dutch.

Book entry #2 on Blame my Brain

Posted by: andreaish | October 29, 2008 | 1 Comment |

The book that I’m reading this month is called Blame My Brain, the amazing teenage brain revealed, by Nicola Morgan.

Blame my Brain is still a good book. I’m still enjoying it a lot. I enjoy this book is because the author teaches interesting things about the brain in a fun way that makes you want to keep on reading. I have learnt many things about my own teenage brain. New things I have learnt from the book are the difference between a male teenage brain and a female’s brain.

I recommend this book to many teenagers because it will make you understand the complicated ways of the teenage brain.

Book entry #1 on Blame My Brain

The book that I’m reading this month is called Blame My Brain, the amazing teenage brain revealed, by Nicola Morgan.

Blame My Brain is a factual book that explains the complicated teenage bran. It reveals the method it works in and its functions.

Some examples of the things it talks about are how many hours of sleep the brain needs to concentrate the next morning and the many different teen facial emotions. My favorite part of the book so far is when they took an ordinary parent, teenager situation and explained what was going on in the teenager’s brain and why he was reacting in that specific way.

Townsend, Sue

The secret diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 ¾

London: Tape Co, 1983.

1. Q. Throughout the book, who did you feel most comfortable talking to?

    A. Before I met Pandora there was nobody I felt fully comfortable to share with, but once Pandora arrived I talked to her the most.

2. Q. Compared to this year, were previous years harsher or more fun?

    A. Yes, this year was particularly complicated and it was hard to get through cause of my parents break up, puberty and discovering that I am an intellectual; so the other years were easier

3. Q. Out of all the unfortunate events that occurred this year which one was the most dreadful?

    A. The toughest one must have been my parent’s breakup

4. Q. When did you realize that Pandora was the one?

    A. Well, you could say the day I met her, but it was most clear once I got to know her.

5. Q. Did you ever suspect a divorce in your parents marriage?

    A. Not really. I knew something was wrong but I thought they would patch it up.

6. Q. Why was Mrs Evans your favourite teacher?

    A. I liked her because she was and always had faith in people and I mostly loved how she stood up for what she believed in.

7. Q. Throughout the year who did you prefer as a parent, your mum or dad?

    A. I love them both equally but this year I was slightly leaning towards my dad because my mum ran off with that scum Mr. Lucas.

8. Q. What was your first impression of Bert Baxter?

    A. Bert doesn’t make a great first impression. He seemed an lazy, egoistic guy that made other people do his work.

9. Q. In the book you had a dog, but you never mentioned what its name. What is your dog’s name and what kind of dog is it?

    A. The dog a Cocker Spaniel and is named Spark.

10. Q. Before Mr. Lucas ran off with your mum, what did you think of him?

      A. I thought of him as a nice guy. He was just my kind neighbour and nothing more.

11. Q. What made you realize that you were an intellectual?

A, I realized I was intellectual once I started getting interested in adult books that were harder to read than child books, and the fact that I loved poetry was a dead give away.

12. Q. What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

      A. I hope to get married with Pandora and as a job I would like to become a poet or a writer.

 13. Q. You never mentioned the name of your school, what is it called?

       A. Saint Mathews Primary School

14 Q. If you were stranded on a deserted island, and could bring one thing, what would it be and why?

     A. I would bring my beloved Pandora, because without her, I would go crazy.

15. Q. I know you like music Adrian, who would you consider your favourite band or singer?

      A.  I don’t know, I like ABBA a lot and Lionel Richie. I kinda have the same taste of music as my dad.

16. Q. Do you have a favourite food?

      A. Not really, but I do love Fish and Chips.

17. Q. Here’s a fun question, if you could have one superpower, what would it be?

      A. I would choose the power to have as many superpowers I want.

18. Q. For how long do you think your relationship going to last with Pandora?

      A. I hope forever and my heart would break if it doesn’t.

19. Q. It seems like you don’t tend to watch T.V, o you actually ever watch it?

      A. No, not really because as an intellectual, I find T.V bad for you.

20. Q. How did you feel when your parents told you that they were going to get a divorce?

      A. I was devastated and shocked. I had now idea what to think.
